Information for Postgraduate Students

On this page I have listed areas of research in which students may do a PhD, Honours, Masters or a Vacation Scholarship with me. If you have your own topic or interest in any related field, please discuss it with me.

Information on postgraduate programs, enrolment, scholarships, etc can be accessed from the School of Physical Sciences Homepage.

My research interests encompass pure and applied research topics, with a particular focus on computational methods for solving these problems. For more details of my research, you may wish to look at my publication list.

Pure Research:

There is a great deal of international research on problems in graph theory and design theory. I am particularly interested in combinatorial algorithms, and high-performance computational methods for solving such problems. If you have programming skills and are interested in this sort of work then please talk to me, as there are many problems to be solved.

Applied Research:

I am involved in the research and development of new technologies in Drug Discovery and DNA sequencing. Currently, a new technique for sequencing previously intractable regions of genomes is being developed jointly with the Australian Genome Research Facility. The technology is being commercialised by the University of Queensland spin-off company "Combinomics". New techniques are being developed for Drug Discovery, and which are being commercialized by the spin-off company “Protagonist”. Exciting topics in these cutting-edge areas of research are available for students with interests in studying and applying graph theory, combinatorial algorithms and computation or bioinformatics.
