- As always, there are three lectures this week
- Tutorials WILL be held this week, and assignment 1 is due in by friday
afternoon
- make sure you have signed on for a tutorial, and are able to attend. For
St Lucia students, the tutorial sign-on forms are on level 5 of the
mathematics building, opposite room 5.24. Ipswich students will
be advised what to do in the Wednesday lecture.
- the additional contact hour WILL be held this week. During that time,
we'll do some extra examples of material covered in lectures, and we'll work
through the initial revision test you completed in lecture 1
- Last week, I spoke of the possibility of cancelling the Ipswich stream
of lectures and instead offering a second stream at St Lucia. Due to an
unexpected increase in class size at Ipswich, this will NOT happen. Thus
you can attend classes at St Lucia or Ipswich or both, at the times originally
scheduled.
- In lectures, we'll keep working through the introductory material
in section 1 of the notes.
- useful reading: the first few chapters of the text PPW (Petocz,
Petocz and Wood). Reading is not very important this week: we do not
match the book very closely just at this stage
Copies of various handouts are available here. Because they include
lots of mathematics, they are in a postscript (.ps) format. To be able
to display them or print them, you will need a program which can
understand postscript. See the bottom of this document for one, for PCs
running Windows 95/98.
