- This is mid-semester exam week. Exams will be held at St Lucia on
Saturday morning, starting at 10am sharp. Exams will be held at Ipswich
on Friday morning, again at 10am sharp. Make sure you arrive a bit early,
in case of traffic problems or other unexpected issues.
- Exam runs for 1.5 hours (so ninety minutes). In addition, there will
be 10 minutes perusal at the start, during which time you can read the
questions and write on a sheet of blank paper which we will give you, but you
may not write on the exam paper.
- You will not be permitted to bring any paper or books into the exam:
apart from pens, a ruler and (possibly) a calculator, don't bring anything
along.
- Any calculators are OK, except those with multiple lines of display, or
which can draw graphs.
- You can write in pencil if you like.
- Exam is worth 30 percent, if it helps you. (So if you muck it up, we simply
won't count it towards ytour final assessment).
- Rooms at St Lucia will be either 42-216, 42-312 or 67-208. You will be
divided according to alphabetical order of your surname: we'll advise you in
class to which room you should go. But if you get confused, go to 42-216.
- At Ipswich, rooms used will be building 2, Rooms 1.04, 1.05 and 1.06.
They are all next to each other, so we'll split you on the day.
- If you are a St Lucia student and genuinely cannot come to the exam on
saturday, then you can come to the Ipswich session on Friday. However, you
must come and see me beforehand (on or before thursday) to make
arrangements.
- If you are sick or have a terrible and unavoidable problem which arises
on saturday, then do not kill yourself to get to the exam. Come and see me on
monday or tuesday next week.
- There are three lectures at St Lucia this week, but there will be only
two lectures at Ipswich this week (as the exam is held during the third lecture
slot). Thus the two groups will be slightly out of synchronisation for the next
two weeks. Ipswich people will catch up in the week after easter.
- An additional tutorial will be held at Ipswich this week on Wednesday at
2pm, in the usual lecture room. We will cover any questions about the exam.
- Make sure you have worked through the sample exam and understood the
solutions!
- Tutorials WILL be held this week, and assignment 7 is due in by friday
afternoon
- the additional contact hour WILL be held this week.
- This week, we'll work through all of Section 8 of the notes, and probably
start on Section 9.
- tute on Tuesday 12-1 (previously in rooms 69-207 and 5-213) has moved
to 67-208 (large room on ground floor of maths building).
- tute on Wednesday 11-12 (previously room 9-816) has moved
to 7-G77 (one of the large lecture theatres in Physics building).
- tute on Wednesday 1-2 (previously room 1-E210) has moved
to 67-111 (level 1 of the mathematics building).
- if you want to attend at Ipswich: {\bf all classes} on Wednesday and
Friday will be held in building 6202 room 1.05, at Ipswich.
Copies of various handouts are available here. Because they include
lots of mathematics, they are in a postscript (.ps) format. To be able
to display them or print them, you will need a program which can
understand postscript. See the bottom of this document for one, for PCs
running Windows 95/98.
