Solution for Section 10.1 Question 3

3. There are many possible answers here. Just keep in mind that if your relation R contains the ordered pair (x, y) then x must be an integer and y must be a natural number. Three possible relations are given below along with some sample elements of each relation.

x r y iff.jpg (642 bytes) x2 = y :  r includes elements such as (1, 1), (2, 4), (-2, 4), (0, 0), (-3, 9).

x r y iff.jpg (642 bytes) | x | = y : r includes elements such as  (2, 2), (-4, 4), (-1, 1), (5, 5).

x r y iff.jpg (642 bytes) x4 + 1 < y  :  r includes elements such as (-2, 18), (-2, 30), (1, 3), (1, 6), (3, 91), (-3, 95).
