Revision Material

The diagnostic quiz covers 10 key topics with problems that you should be able to answer without the use of a calculator. In order to succeed in MATH1050, it is important that you have sufficient mathematical knowledge of these topics. The purpose of the quiz is to help you to identify any key topics for which your mathematical background is a bit shaky. Once you have identified those topics, you can use the following revision material to strengthen your mathematical background.

Revision material
The revision material has been organised into sections. Each section covers one topic and includes some explanation, some worked examples, and some practice problems for you solve with short answers. Fully worked solutions to all the practice problems are Section 11.

• Section 1 Factorisation (Example 1.2.4 4x^2 – 25. First two parts of solution do not match the question and should have minus signs.)
